Michael Reilly of Duos Technologies in Jacksonville makes the company’s work sound simple.
“We take photos of trains,” said Reilly, Duos Human Resources Manager and a 36-year U.S. Army veteran.
But it is much more than simple pictures. Duos has developed a system of railcar inspection portals (RIP®) throughout the United States.
When a train passes through one of the portals, sometimes at speeds of more than 70 mph, a series of images are collected via cameras, lasers and lights and instantly scanned for any safety issues.
“We are taking a 360-degree collection of images,” he said.” All those pixels get cut together and we run those images through the AI process, looking for anomalies and to prevent catastrophic outcomes.”
The process allows railway operators to spot anything from someone hitching a ride on a railcar to any dangerous safety concerns. That includes undercarriage examiners capturing images as the train rolls over it.
Since its founding in Jacksonville in 2001, building off the city’s extensive railway infrastructure, Duos has consistently improved and developed state of the art technologies.
Just this summer, Duos announced a subscription-based railcar inspection system, using new technology that Amtrak has used during the development. These new portals can perform a mechanical analysis of trains moving up to 120 miles per hour, providing safety data and alerts within 60 seconds.
Continuous evolution requires a highly trained workforce. Currently with 61 employees, Duos is expanding.
Reilly stated, “With our recent expansion into Duos Edge AI and Duos Energy Corporation, we are broadening our focus to include edge data centers, rural technology solutions, and power generation projects. This growth opens up diverse career opportunities in engineering, IT, project management, power generation, supply chain management, sales and accounting.
“We strongly encourage veterans to apply through Veterans Florida, as our team reflects Duos’ commitment to military values and leadership. We’re looking for professionals ready to drive innovation and be part of advancing transportation, energy, and technology solutions.”
Veterans are especially in demand and that begins at the top; CEO Charles Ferry served 26 years on active duty in the U.S. Army leading Infantry, Ranger, and Special Operations Units including 48 months of combat in Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
Veterans Florida has helped Duos continue its growth by arranging SkillBridge internships for servicemembers ready to start their civilian career.
“Lots of our leadership team served,” Reilly said. “(Veterans) understand very intimately the skills required to do a job. They know how to adjust for unknowns and accomplish the mission.”
Veterans and separating servicemembers looking for a civilian career can apply today to receive one-on-one support from Veterans Florida.
