Veterans Florida Expands SkillBridge Internship Opportunities in Construction

Veterans Florida, a non-profit organization created by the State of Florida to help military veterans transition to civilian life, announced a new SkillBridge partnership today with one of the State’s leading providers of building solutions for local governments.

C.A.P. Government, Inc. (CAP) provides full and supplemental outsourced Building Department services in support for construction projects in more than 70 local government and educational entities.

“Veterans leave the service with incredible work experience, but many still struggle finding the right career path in the civilian world. With hundreds of people moving to Florida every day, the need for high-quality construction is growing as well,” said Veterans Florida Executive Director Joe Marino. “This SkillBridge partnership will provide excellent opportunities for service members eager to put their experience to work in helping Florida grow.”

Founded in 1989 by Mr. Carlos A. Penin, PE, Florida-based CAP provides high-quality building department services across the State. Services include complex code compliance, emergency management and implementing cutting-edge technology for electronic plan reviews.

CAP’s 250+ engineers, architects, building code administrators, plan examiners, and inspectors provide deep expertise, helping Florida’s local governments operate more efficiently and keep the public safe.

“With more than a dozen veterans currently on our team, we know first-hand that men and women leaving the military have incredible skills and experience that are often underappreciated. We are eager to provide internship opportunities that can lead to rewarding careers in a high-paying, high-demand field,” said Mr. Penin, CAP’s President. “The SkillBridge program provides a ‘win-win’ for businesses seeking to grow and for veterans eager to return or relocate to Florida.”

The U.S. Department of Defense’s SkillBridge Program enables active-duty servicemembers with commander approval to gain work experience through internships, fellowships, and apprenticeships with employers during their final six months of service. Military personnel of any rank and branch are eligible to participate in SkillBridge and maintain their DOD salary and benefits during the training period.

Veterans Florida, the state’s designated SkillBridge assistance organization, helps employers create qualified SkillBridge workforce training and matches transitioning servicemembers to their opportunities.

In 2021 Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 435 creating the nation’s first statewide SkillBridge initiative and designating Veterans Florida as the state’s SkillBridge assistance organization.
